A 21-year-old Pakistani visitor, MOS, who stole his friend’s labour card and presented it to a prospective employer, was sentenced to one year in jail.

The victim, SAF, testified that on August 17, MOS asked him for his labour card but he had refused.

“I went to the bathroom, keeping my wallet under the pillow. It seems he took the labour card while I was in the bathroom and went out. Later, at around 3am, I got a call from a friend telling me that MOS had been arrested for submitted my labour card to a company where he had applied for a job.”

Corporal Ahmad Bilal testified that while he was in Festival City checking workers’ labour cards, he visited a shop under construction. He found out that a labour card held by the shop’s security staff did not belong to its holder his face did not match the picture on the card.

“When I questioned the worker, at first he insisted that the labour card belonged to him and that his name was SAF. When I moved to arrest him, he confessed that he had stolen the card from its real holder as he was seeking a job while on a visit visa,” he testified.

The court adjourned the case for verdict until December 23.
