An Egyptian waiter allegedly caused the death of a guest in a Dubai hotel by accidentally pushing him down the stairs, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

On August 31, at around 3.30 am, MM, came out from the hotel’s bar.

He sat in the reception and asked for a taxi. A hotel guard got him a taxi and informed him about it.

The drunk man stepped towards the hotel’s guard and started talking to him.

“I did not understand what he was telling me because he was drunk,” the guard said.

At this time when the hotel guest was standing in front of the door, the waiter YN, 29, tried to get out of the hotel after finishing his duty.

“I tried to sneak through between him and the door to go out. Instead of giving me a way, he pushed me into the hotel. I stepped towards the door and tried to get out but he again pushed me in. I tried for the third time but he did not allow me so I pushed him to make a way,” said the waiter.

The drunk man lost the balance on the stairs and fell four stairs down, hitting his head on a ramp made for people with special needs.

The waiter did not notice that and went to his car parked on the back side of the hotel.

The guard HA, 38, Egyptian, rushed to the victim and tried to wake him up.

“His eyes were open but he was unconscious. I lifted him up and made him sit by resting his head onto me. He had wounds on his forehead and nose. Since he was bleeding, I asked my colleague to bring first aid to help stop the bleeding,” he said.

Then the waiter passed by in his car in front of the hotel’s entrance and saw the victim unconscious. He was shocked to see this.

An ambulance rushed the victim to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Criminal evidence report showed that the victim died because of a fracture in Cervical vertebra that caused laceration of the spinal cord.

It was also reported that the rate of alcohol in his blood was very high, preventing him from balancing himself thus he was unaware of what he did and said.

Police arrested the waiter who admitted pushing the hotel guest to make way as the latter did not allow him to get out of the hotel’s entrance.

During the court proceedings, the accused denied assaulting the guest and causing his death.

The court will reconvene on February 4.
