An Asian woman and her lover are on trial in Sharjah on charges of murdering her husband and cutting his body into small pieces before burying it under sand near an industrial zone in the emirate, the press reported on Wednesday.

The prosecutor told court on Tuesday that the two defendants hit the victim on the head with a cleaver then cut his body into pieces. He also charged the woman and her lover of committing adultery.

During interrogation, the woman confessed to murdering her husband but she retracted her statements in court, telling the judge that her boyfriend committed the murder.

The lawyer defending the wife said there was no evidence she murdered her husband and that the victim had divorced her but kept coming to her house disguised as a woman to sleep with her by force.

The lawyer asked the judge to use mercy in sentencing the woman on the grounds there was no concrete evidence she was involved in the murder.

When the judge asked the two defendants whether they had contacted the victim’s relatives for a diya (blood money) settlement, they said they still could not reach them and asked the judge to bring those relatives to court.
