Teen rave 'rocks' Springs residents in Dubai

The Springs in Dubai is known to be a quiet, even sleepy, residential community where in most households children are in bed by 8.30pm.

A few days ago, however, residents were up until midnight as 50-odd teenagers decided to hire a villa in Springs 11 for some fun and frolic.

Apparently, a teenager decided to ‘rent’ the vacant villa and throw a party for his friends – and theirs. What began in late evening as a small get-together of a handful of teenagers swelled to a 3-bedroom villa playing host to more than 50 wild young things.

“It was crazy. Many people came out of their houses and tried to reason with this mad crowd to take the party elsewhere.

“There was so much commotion and noise. Emaar security came to help but these wild kids would not pay heed to anybody,” said a resident living on the same street where the villa had been hired for the night.

The developer’s security tried their best to stop the vandals from entering the community by blocking the entrance gate but the revelers jumped the barricade and found their way into the community.

“I saw everything from my bedroom window. Most of us were scared to even step out of our houses. How can you stop teens in such numbers?

“There were two bouncers at the entrance of the villa and they were taking money from these kids to get inside. Loud music and party flashlights kept us awake,” said another neighbour.

If this was not enough, some vandals caused damage to residents’ properties.

One complained of a teenager urinate on his car and another resident said that a group of party-goers rode away his kid’s bicycle, which was parked in their garage outside their house.

He found the bike next day, abandoned near the entrance of the community, and with a missing bell.

As confusion prevailed on the ground floor of the villa and the street, residents were scandalized to spot teenage couples making out on the first floor of the property, not bothered that the windows and lights were open, giving anyone outside a full view of what was going on inside.

“I was shocked to see all that. I hope the parents of these children know what they were up to. I love The Springs but what happened was such a shame,” said a neighbour.

Another neighbour said this wasn’t the first time that a teen party was organised in the same villa.

A resident confirmed that there as was a party on the December 31, but people ignored it as being just another New Year celebration that continued until late.

The helpless Emaar security finally called up the police to control the raging teenagers, who refused to budge from the scene.

As the cops arrived, some of the teens were seen jumping off the garden wall to make good their escape. The police hushed them and by mid-night, most of them were out.

The next day the security personnel assured to the residents that Emaar would take up the matter with the villa owner.

In cases such as this one, residents can complain to the police, Judge Ibrahim Seif of Dubai Courts told Emirates 24|7. “The juvenile law of the country will be applicable here. If the offenders are less than 18 years of age, the parents will be called to the police station and the father of the children will be fined.”

“The Public Prosecution can get the parents to sign a statement that their children will not repeat such incidents.

“This is for the first time offenders, after which, they can be fined and asked not to visit the place again. The Public Prosecution can order the place to be shut down, if it is deemed unfit,” he explained to Emirates 24|7.
