Woman guarantor turns kidnap plotter after loan goes wrong

An elaborate kidnap plot to retrieve Dh90,000 lent to an Indian went wrong after a woman, who allegedly stood guarantor, refused to pay up.

Seven Indians and an Afghani are accused in the case which came up for hearing before the Dubai Criminal Court.

SJS, 31, Partner, AWA, 31, Afghani salesman and JBJ, 48, hairdresser , are accused by the prosecution of kidnapping FLP in Al Jafiliya in Dubai and assaulting him.

The allegedly stripped him of his mobile and cash and detained him in Ras Al Khaimah.

MNK, 48, building painter, AFB, 31, and BMI, 49, both drivers, are accused of confining the victim in a labour camp in an industrial area in RAK.

RMB, 25, accountant, is accused of not informing the authorities about the crime.

AFB, 26, manager, is accused of threatening the victim with murder him if he did not give him the money.

The 54-year-old victim, FLP, a salesman, testified that he borrowed Dh90,000 from the second accused, SJS.

The woman who brokered the deal was called Patricia and she issued SJS a cheque as a guarantee.

“Should I fail to pay back the debt, he was to take the money from Patricia. I agreed with SJS that I will pay him in three months. But, I could pay only Dh30,000. So I asked him to extend the payback period,” the victim testified.

“I sought the help of Patricia and she told me that there is a person who will lend me the money and asked me to come to her house in Al Jafiliya area at 6pm.

“When I arrived there I saw SJS and JBJ and an Afghani who all assaulted me and asked me for the amount.

“They tied me up and drove me to a labour accommodation they confined me. I asked them to give me my mobile to arrange the money. They gave me the mobile and I could arrange Dh10,000 and my brother-in -law deposited in the second accused’s account.

“My brother back in India deposited Indian Rupees Rs500,000. As I paid back the full amount, I was asked to pay Dh45,000 as profit which I told them that I cannot pay. I could call my brother in Indian and asked him to inform the Indian embassy about me. My brother’s friend called me and I told him to call the police,” he testified.

Corporal Saeed Saleh testified that police set up a trap for the accused where they told them to come and collect Dh50,from the victim’s friend, provided he sees the victim.

The policemen followed the taxi that the victim’s friend took and as they came out with the victim from the labour camp, the cops arrested them all.
