A 20-year-old prostitute exploited a compatriot’s need for work and forced her into prostitution, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

The victim BAF, 30, testified that she used to work as a tailor in her home country. “A relative offered me a housemaid’s job in Dubai on a monthly salary of Dh2,000.

“I gave my relative Ismaeel my pictures and he arranged a passport for me. After some time, he gave the air ticket and dropped me at the airport on March 20 after I agreed to pay him 250,000 Bangladeshi taka after I take up the new job in UAE. A Bangladeshi woman whom I knew when she was in our homeland received me at Dubai airport and asked me to come with her a taxi. When we arrived in a flat, she asked me for my passport. The next day, she told me that I will work in prostitution. When I refused, she beat me up and threatened that I will never see my home country again. Then she brought three men to have sex with me, but I refused.

“On March 22, at around 6pm, I took advantage of the fact that nobody was in the flat. I jumped from the kitchen window on the first floor, but I lost my balance and fell. A pedestrian called the police and I was rushed to the hospital for treatment,” she testified.

The victim received treatment for a fracture in her leg.

Police trapped the other woman and confiscated from the flat visas and passports of Bangladeshi women, condoms, two bottles of wine and a notebook in which the monies collected from girls were recorded, testified policeman Humaid Saleh.

The court will reconvene on July 15.
