A Yemeni teacher allegedly forged her marriage contract and increased her dowry from 100,000 to 500,000 riyals, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

FMQ, 38, who is seeking divorce from her husband MH, submitted the forged marriage contract to the Shariah Court judge, asking her husband to pay her 500,000 riyals in dowry.

The 39-year-old Yemeni husband testified that he had married the accused in Yemen in 1999 against a dowry of 100,000 riyals.

“I was stunned to see that the marriage contract my wife submitted to the Shariah Court in Dubai mentioned the dowry as 500,000 riyals,” he testified.

As the contact was proved to be forged by Criminal Evidences, a criminal case was lodged against the wife, accusing her of forging and using the forged marriage contract.

Dubai Prosecution asked the Criminal Court to implement stiff penalty for the accused.

The Court  will reconvene on September 30.
