A woman trying to steal cosmetics from a Sharjah supermarket was arrested on Friday night after an alert by a salesman.

This is the second such incident in the same supermarket during the last two months.

The lady, a 23-year-old Ethiopian national was caught while she was trying to leave the store with the stolen items.

Mohammed Shabir, one of the employees at the store in Al Qasmia in Sharjah told 'Emirates24|7' that they immediately called the police who arrested and took her away for interrogation.

“It was around 10.15pm and she entered with a big bag and was seen going around the shop several times. She stood near the cosmetics section for quite some time and because of a recent incident, one of our staff started observing her through the camera,” said Shabir.

Last month a salesman at a leading electronic store in Dubai was caught stealing cosmetic goods at the same store. After being caught he confessed that he used to regularly visit the store several times a month to take away stuff, in order to sell them at a discounted price to his female colleagues.

“We have been very alert since then. The woman in question was, however, a housemaid but had no passport or a valid visa. She had three mobile phones in her bag and had printouts with her number advertising for part-time jobs,” added Shabir.

“The police officials also asked us to be alert and report any such incidents immediately,” he added.
