Woman steals Dhs1m from friends

The Fujairah Appellate Court sentenced an Arab woman to three months in jail for fraud and for stealing Dhs1 million from her friends.

The Appellate Court cancelled the Dhs2,000 fine levied by the court of first instance for threatening her victims.

An Arab woman, SHM, had filed a complaint with the Fujairah Police, accusing the suspect of stealing Dhs1m.

SHM said that the suspect had collected the money from her and her friends, under the pretext of a monthly committee fund among them.

Later the suspect refused to pay the money back and instead threatened them.

Al Khajeel newspaper reported that the police arrested the suspect and interrogated her, and later she was referred to the Fujairah court.

She is now sentenced to three months in jail and a fine of Dhs2,000.

The defendant appealed the ruling and the appellate court upheld the verdict.
