A Vietnamese worker who stabbed his co-worker following a fight at a project site, was sentenced to one year in jail and was ordered to pay Dh2,000 as fine.

The Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance also ordered NV, 32, to be deported after serving his jail term.

On February 26, 2014, a manager was at the site when two workers had a heated argument.

“I intervened and ended the dispute. Fifteen minutes later, I heard a scream and rushing in its direction, I saw LI bleeding with his hand on his chest. LI pointed at NV saying that he was the one who had stabbed him,” said the manager.

The victim was taken to the hospital and when the manager returned, he found out that NV had fled the site.

A worker at the site, MS, 36, Bangladeshi, testified that he saw NV carrying a middle size knife with a white handle and walking towards the victim. However, he told the police that he did not see NV stabbing the victim.

Criminal Evidences reported that the stab was fatal as it had reached the chest cavity. Police arrested the accused who was recognised by the victim and other workers.

The Prosecution referred the accused to the court on premeditated murder attempt charge.
