BJG, a 41-year-old yacht maker from Iceland, allegedly forged a document with the help of which he gained a verdict in his favour from the Abu Dhabi Court which ordered an Emirati to pay him Dh4 million as the value of a yacht, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

MJI, 41, Emirati, who reviewed the case file after the verdict, suspected that the power of attorney submitted by the plaintiff was forged.

“I took a copy of the power of attorney and showed it to the judge and told him about my suspicions about the document. Abu Dhabi judicial authorities, in coordination with the Ministry of Exterior, found out that the signatures and seals of the ministry’s office in Dubai were forged.

“On October 25, 2011, I lodged a complaint with the police and the case was referred to Dubai as the forgery was related to the ministry’s office in Dubai,” he testified.

Dubai Prosecution accused BJG of forging a power of attorney document attested by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Dubai office.

According to the lawyer of the yacht maker, in 2010, he lodged a case against MJI, Emirati, in the Abu Dhabi court for refusing to return a yacht he had sent to him.

The Abu Dhabi Court ordered MJI to pay the value of the yacht to the plaintiff.

The yacht maker denied the forgery accusation and the Dubai Criminal Court adjourned the case to September 29 and ordered his release on bail.
