A 24-year-old jobless Emirati, AHS, allegedly stabbed his brother in an attempt to kill him but was saved when their sister intervened and wrenched the knife out of the attacker’s hand, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

The victim, NHS, 30, testified that on November 18 at around 4.30am, while he was in his house in Al Warqa, he heard his sister ‘N’ shouting.  When he rushed to her, he heard his brother ‘A’ threatening her.

“I got very angry and hit him with my hand. He pulled out a knife from his pocket and stabbed me in the chest. Other family members who gathered there tried to separate us,” testified the victim.

The 21-year-old sister testified her conversation with her brother ‘A’ had turned into a heated argument.

“I shouted at him and my other brother rushed to me when he heard me shouting and beat my brother ‘A’ with his hand. Then ‘A’ pulled out a knife from his pocket and stabbed my other brother. I managed to take the knife out of his hand so he could not continue attacking him,” she testified.

Corporal Husain Baqer testified that the accused admitted to stabbing the victim in the chest but claimed that it was in self-defence.  The accused is facing the charge of attempt to kill.

Forensic reported that the stab was fatal in terms of the tool used and the place of the wound.

Medical reported that the stab was deep and caused internal and external bleeding though the lungs and heart were not injured.

The court will reconvene on April 22.
