A twenty-year-old Indian was sentenced to six months in jail for attempted murder.

The Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance also ordered IM to pay Dh2,000 for consuming alcohol and to be deported after serving his jail term.

The convict was acquitted of the charge of robbing a pedestrian.

According to the records, two Indians received fatal stabs when they intervened to rescue an elderly man from a group of youngsters who were attacking him.

One of the victims, AG, 23, student, told police that they saw a group of youths beating up an elderly person.

“My friend and I intervened and tried to prevent the youths from beating up the man. All of a sudden, they turned and started hitting us with their hands and legs. One of them held a brick and hit my head while the other stabbed me several times until I fell on the ground. One of them stole my wallet,” AG told investigators.

His friend, 23-year-old SB, repeated corroborative testimony, saying that the four youths had also beaten him up, stabbed him and stole his wallet.

Police rushed the two victims to hospital where they lay in critical condition and were reported to have received fatal stabs.

Police arrested all the attacker youths except for one fugitive. The accused admitted to attacking an elderly man in an attempt to rob him but as the two had intervened, they had stabbed and robbed them.

The accused stole Dh100 from their wallets besides some cards.

IM, 20, and the other three, who are being prosecuted by the Juvenile Court, are accused of murder attempt, robbery and consuming alcohol.
