Three Bangladeshi workers allegedly kidnapped and confined a compatriot and assaulted him to give them a lease of a land back home, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

KI, 27, MH, 37 and SI, 25, are also accused of stealing the lease from the victim JA in addition to his mobile phone.

The three suspects are facing charges of attempting to kidnap another compatriot, as well. Records reveal that AA resisted and ran away.

The victim, JA, 25, told the police that when he was in his room his accommodation, he received a phone call from KI’s brother-in-law.

“He asked me for a meeting claiming that he wants to greet me on Eid Al Fitr. We agreed that he would come at 9pm to the accommodation. At 9pm, he called me and told me that he waiting for me near my building. I asked my friend AH to accompany me and we both went down stairs,” said the victim.

As the two reached down the accommodation, they saw KI with other three men in a car.

KI got off the car and wished the two. Then the rest three men got off the car and greeted the two as well. Before leaving, KI asked the victim and his companion to accompany them to guide the man who was driving to get to the main road.

“I told him that they can reach to the main road very easily by just following any car going to that direction. I told him that there is no need for us to go with them to guide them. At this moment, two men held me and KI hit me with a steal rod, while the third one tried to catch my friend. Then I was punched in the face and the mouth before they pushed me into the car, while my friend fled,” said JA.

Three of the attackers including KI got into the car while the fourth headed to another car that was waiting behind them.

“I could not see who else was in the other car,” said the victim.

On the way, KI asked the victim to hand over the lease of a land in Bangladesh that he and his brother had leased out to the victim.

The victim denied having the lease with him in the UAE and told them that it was with his family back home.

The attackers asked the victim to call his family and to hand over the lease to KI’s family.

“I accepted that on the condition that if I hand over the lease, I should be paid my share of the lease value. We got into an argument regarding that. After about an hour of driving, they stopped off the road. They car which was behind us also stopped and SI and MH got off the car,” said the victim.

After taking his mobile and throwing away the SIM card, MH asked the victim to move to the other car.

In the car, which MH drove, KI again asked me to call my father and to ask him to hand over the lease to his parents.

“He gave me his mobile and so I asked my father to hand over the lease to KI’s parents. MH told me that I would not be released until they would be assured that the lease was handed over.

The men stayed in the car with the victim until the next day morning. At around 10am, MH asked the victim to call his father to check if he did the required.

When the attackers were assured of having the lease with their family they stopped the car off the road and released the victim.

“I asked them to give me Dh50 to go back to the accommodation. After giving me the amount, I asked for my mobile. However, they refused to give it back to me,” said the victim.

Meanwhile, the victim discovered that he was in Abu Dhabi. “I hailed a cab and returned to my accommodation,” said the victim.

His friend AH, 35, carpenter repeated the same testimony.

The three admitted before investigators that they attacked and kidnaped the victim to get the lease of a land back home.

Forensic reports reveal the victim sustained 1 per cent permanent disability as he lost one of his front tooth.

The court is adjourned until May 8.
