70 inmates escape from Saudi jail

Seventy illegal Ethiopian migrants smashed their way out of jail in Saudi Arabia and escaped through the capital Riyadh before police captured 25 of them.

Newspapers said the prisoners, who were detained at a police station in Riyadh pending deportation, smashed part of the back wall and sneaked out before guards discovered their escape and alerted the capital’s police.

“We have captured 25 of them and are looking for the remaining fugitives,” Saudi prisons spokesman Major Abdullah Al Harbi told Sabq daily.
