Alarabiya under fire over women’s interviews

A famous Saudi satellite TV news channel came under fire from viewers after its sport editor went into a house in the conservative Gulf Kingdom and interviews veiled women about a local football match.

Sharq Arabic language daily ran a two-minute film showing the broadcaster from Alarabiya channel interviewing veiled Saudi women inside their home and said it had received calls from many viewers protesting the programme.

“Many viewers wondered how this happened in a conservative society like ours…what angered the viewers is that the male broadcaster was inside the house with the girls, which is quite an uncommon scene in our country,” the Arabic language daily said.
