Saudi police denied reports that a local girl has been abducted and beheaded, saying a picture circulated on social networks is a fake.
The picture, which had gone viral on Saudi smart phones and social media networks, showed a girl lying dead in a pool of blood after she was beheaded.
The reports named the girl as Mariam Hassan Aseeri from the western Saudi town of Makkah.
“This picture is false. We have not recorded any incident involving the killing of a child in this way. We call on the media to verify any news before circulating them,” Makkah police spokesman Lt Colonel Atti Al Qirshi said, quoted by 'Ajel' newspaper.
