Father faces execution for raping his daughter

A Saudi man who had raped his daughter for nearly nine years has been referred to a three-judge court panel for a sentence which could involve beheading, a newspaper in the oil-rich Gulf country said on Monday.

The unnamed man from the eastern province of Qatif had earlier confessed to the crime to the prosecution but retracted his statements in court.

“The court in Qatif decided to refer him to the general court so his case will be heard by three judges who will issue their verdict,” Sabq said.

“If he is convicted by the general court, the man will be executed for his ugly crime against his own daughter,” it added, quoting judicial sources.

In June, Saudi newspaper said the father had raped his daughter for nine years until she decided to report him to the police when she became 19 years old.

The unidentified girl told police her father had raped her since she was 10 years old. “She said she could not report it before because he was threatening her.”

The paper quoted police sources as saying the unnamed man already had committed 16 offences involving drugs and alcohol.
