Filipina maid raped after fleeing Saudi employer

A Filipina housemaid who arrived to work in Saudi Arabia last week fled her employers and headed for her country’s embassy in the Gulf Kingdom but she was raped before reaching the diplomatic mission, a newspaper reported on Thursday.

The maid told police she decided to go to the Philippine embassy in the Western Red Sea port of Jeddah to complain about overwork at her employer’s house.

“The maid said that she went to the bus station and got a ticket…a man then took her to a bus parked away, forced her inside and raped her,” Alsaudeh daily said.

The paper said the incident took place at the bus station in the nearby port of Yanbu and that police later arrested the rapist, who was identified by the maid.
