If you live in Saudi Arabia and reported a $10 million drug haul to the police, then you would become a millionaire.

Reeling under massive narcotics smuggling, the Gulf kingdom has just announced that those who report any drug haul to the police would be paid half its value.

“Any Saudi or expatriate who reports a drug haul to the police would be paid half its value,” said Abdul Ilah Al Sharif, assistant director at the counter-drug department in Saudi Arabia, the world’s largest oil exporter.

“The remaining 50 per cent would be paid to the police team which seizes that haul,” he told the Arabic language daily Alsaudeh.

Saudi Arabia, the largest Arab economy with a population of around 28 million, has been hit hard by drug trafficking given its relatively high per capita income. Hundreds of convicted narcotic smugglers have been beheaded in the Kingdom.
