Saudi border customs inspectors seized more than 20,000 liquor bottles hidden inside fruit boxes aboard a truck crossing from the UAE into the Gulf kingdom.

The inspectors at Al Bataha border point decided to search the truck after suspecting its driver was transporting illegal items along with the fruits.

“We found nearly 20,400 liquor bottles inside some boxes. The other boxes contained only fruit,” Customs Director Abdul Rahman Al Muhanna said, quoting by Sabq daily.

Alcoholic drinks are strictly banned Saudi Arabia, the largest Arab economy and world’s dominant oil exporter.
