Sister-in-law accuses brother of attempted rape

An Arab woman in Kuwait is accusing her brother-in-law of trying to rape her while her husband was out of the Gulf country, a newspaper reported on Sunday.

The unnamed woman told police that her husband’s brother came to her house in Kuwait City and asked her if she needs anything.

“I thanked him and went to prepare a cup of tea for him…he then came to the kitchen and jumped on me…when I screamed, he ran away,” she said.

The paper said police had summoned the man for interrogation.

Three kids killed in Kuwait house fire
 
Three children aged between four and eight years were killed when a massive fire erupted at a house in Kuwait while they were playing in the basement.

Police said four other children were seriously hurt in the blaze while a little girl was taken to hospital with medium injuries.

The Kuwaiti Alanba newspaper said police were investigating the causes of the fire but it did not make clear if the children are from the same family.

Civil servant on trial for taking bribe
 
A court in Ras Al Khaimah is trying an Asian government employee accused of taking bribe from a restaurant to cancel an offence against him.

The employee, a food inspector, caught the restaurant violating health rules and wanted to fine it before he was offered Dh300 and a Dh25 balance for his mobile phone, the Arabic language daily Alkhaleej said.

“The restaurant owner then went to the police and reported the inspector…police arrested the inspector after verifying the report,” it said.

Man falls to death in lift shaft
 
A Saudi man plunged to his death in a high rise building when he entered a lift without noticing that it was not there.

Police called to the scene found the body at the bottom of the lift shaft in the building in Salimiyya neighbourhood in Kuwait City.

“The Saudi man did not notice the sign showing that the lift is out of order…he just opened the door and went inside but there was no lift there,” the Arabic language daily Alwatan said.
