A Syrian man who killed his parents and brother in his home country and fled to Kuwait was arrested in the oil-rich Gulf emirate, which said it would extradite him.

Majid Taha Aba Zaid used a machine gun to murder his father, mother and brother before injuring another brother and his sister in the southern town of Dara on April 3. He then fled to Kuwait on the next day.

Kuwait police said they arrested Zaid after Syria’s official media reported the murder, adding that the man confessed to the crime.

“We have instructed police to take measures to hand him over to authorities in his country because he committed the crime in his hometown,” said Major General Ibrahim Al Tarrah, police chief in Jahra area in Kuwait City.

The Kuwaiti Arabic language daily Alanba said Zaid told police it was an “honour” murder although his injured brother had said it was triggered by inheritance rifts.

Man reports police chief to police

A Kuwaiti man in Kuwait went into a police station and told them he wanted to file a complaint. When they asked him against whom, police men were shocked when he told them he was reporting their own chief.

“The Egyptian accused the police chief in Fuhaiheel of threatening him and detaining him for five days without any legal reason,” Alwatan daily said.

“He told police that his company manager asked him to file a case against the head of the police station…police accepted the complaint and said they would investigate the case before summoning him.”
