Saudi Arabia's feared Islamic police arrested a local woman for organising a mixed-gender party that involved music in violation of a permission granted to her for holding a no-music function to mark her company's first anniversary.

Members of the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice arrested the woman after seeing the part on social media network, Okaz newspaper said in a report from the Western Saudi Red Sea port of Jeddah.

It quoted police as saying the woman had applied for a permission to organise a function for her company and that the application did not refer to music.

"Commission members accused the woman of cheating and deceiving police after they found that the party included music and a singer.

"They also found that the party included men and women although the permission granted to her stipulated that men must be in a separate hall," the paper said.

Gender-mixing in strictly banned in public places in Saudi Arabia, one of the most conservative Islamic nations.
