Saudi woman pardoned her ex-husband’s wife who was convicted of murdering her four-year-old son in the Gulf kingdom five months ago, a newspaper reported on Saturday.

Amal Al Barqi went to court in the western town of Taif this week and told the judge that she had pardoned the killer following mediation by friends.

“Amal told the judge that she has forgiven the wife of her ex-husband and that she has dropped the case,” Sharq Arabic language daily said.

Ahmed Al Gamdi was found dead in a garbage bag in June nine days after he went missing and police said he was murdered by his step mother.

The 39-year-old killed confessed to police that she had used a big stick to club the child to death, put him in a garbage bag and dumped his body at a building under construction in Taif.

She told police that she had beaten the boy to death at night then told his father in the morning that she could not find him. His father had accused his ex-wife, Ahmed’s mother, of kidnapping him but did not provide any evidence to police.

'Sharq' did not make clear if the mother’s pardon would affect a court death sentence against the defendant as killers could be saved from the gallows in case they are given by all direct relatives. The paper did not mention if Ahmed’s father has also pardoned his present wife.
