A Bangladeshi worker who strangled a woman to death following a heated argument was sentenced to life.

The Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance also ordered 29-year-old, MD, to be deported after serving his jail term.

On January 5, 2014, police was informed about a decomposed dead body found in the desert in Dubai Investment Park area. A labour card of the deceased SB, who worked for an airline company, was found near the body.

A scarf was found around the neck and forensic report suggests that the cause of death was suffocation.

Police investigated the case and found out that Bangladeshi worker had used the victim's mobile phone from his house.

It was also found out that there were several phone calls between the victim and the accused before murder.

Investigation proved that the accused had resigned from his job before killing the victim and leaving the UAE in April 2013.

The victim's workplace and workers in the company accommodation testified that the victim had not been seen since March 2013.

Further investigations showed that the victim and the accused had physical relationship.

A witness, Bangladeshi worker, LM, testified that the accused had told him that he has been in a relationship with SB since a year and a half. However, he did not tell divulge about the nature of the relationship.

"I once spoke to her over the phone and she told me her name. I knew that they met every Friday at 4pm. One day, my friend was very upset and told me that the woman is asking him for money because she wants to go on vacation. He was very angry because she had threatened to leave him and go to another man if he failed to give her the amount," testified LM.

Records did not mention how the accused was arrested in September 2015.

When confronted, MD admitted to suffocating the woman with her scarf after having sex with her in a sandy area.

"In 2013, I knew the woman through a friend who told me that she offers sex against money and gave me with her contact number. I called her and agreed to meet her at Gate 1 of Jebel Ali Port. After meeting her, we took a taxi and she guided the driver to an area near Dubai Investments Park. We got off the taxi and walked for about two minutes in the desert. Behind a hill, we got intimate and then she asked me for Dh500. She raged in anger when I told her that I have only Dh200. She pulled me by my shirt and threatened to inform the police while dragging me to the main road. I got very scared and caught the two sides of a scarf she was wearing around her neck and pulled it with all my might for about one and a half to two minutes. When she fell down, I realised that she had died. I got scared, took her mobile and ran away,” he told investigators.

In court, MD denied the pre-mediated murder and theft accusations saying that he does not know anything about the case and that he was not in the UAE at that time.
