Colombo: A Sri Lankan mother hid her newborn behind a sofa in her house wrapped in a cloth, after she secretly delivered the baby, reported Lankadeep.
The 35-year-old woman, a former soldier and mother of two, residing in Peliyagoda area, was taken to hospital by her unsuspecting family as she was bleeding profusely.
It was there the family learnt that she had delivered. And she revealed that she had hidden the newborn behind the sofa in the living room. However, the baby was found dead.
Neither her husband nor her family knew she was pregnant, according to police investigating the case.
She will be taken into custody once discharged from hospital, said police and added that her mental condition will also be ascertained.
Peliyagoda police are investigating.
