SRI LANKA: A bogus dancing master and his wife had been arrested by Bandaragama police on Sunday (31) for keeping three young women awake through the night till dawn in his sitting room and forcing them to dance naked.

The trio had approached him after seeing an ad in a paper calling for actors and actresses, ‘Lankadeepa’ reported.

The three young women had to be hospitalized.

The suspect's ad stated that he wanted newcomers to act in his film to be shot next month. The three young women from Dambadeniya,

Avissawella and Alawathugoda, as well as a young man from Kanthalai

had come to meet him in response to the ad, police said.

He had advised the youngsters, who came to his house about eight days before, to work in unison after introducing them to each other while lodging the young men in upper floor and the young women in the ground floor of his two storied house.

Two days later, he summoned them to the sitting room around 8.30 pm and told that they would be trained to dance for the film “Natala Balamuda” (Shall We Dance) due to shot.

By then, the windows and doors of the house had been closed and there was only a dim light in the room.

After making the young men and women dance for a few hours, he asked the young man to leave the room, police revealed.

A little later, the suspect told the young women to strip and dance as he wanted to see the shape of their bodies and how they moved according to the rhythm of the music. The women told the police that when they refused to do so, he assaulted them.

The police acted on the complaint filed by the three young women and the young man, who had escaped from the scene on the day of the incident. The suspect and his wife were arrested.

Investigations continue.
