US: A driver in the US  allegedly crashed his Bugatti Veyron - one of the fastest vehicles in the world - into a swamp to claim $2.2million insurance.

The 39-year-old car dealer from Texas, pleaded guilty and could face up to 20 years when sentenced, reported Daily Mail.

He crashed the Bugatti unaware that his crash was filmed by a passer-by who admired his car and later shared in online.

He had taken a $1 million loan to buy the car and then bought collector's insurance, valuing the car at $2.2m just three weeks before the crash, the report added.

He told investigators that he saw a pelican and swerved the car, losing control and crashing into the swamp, according to the report.

However, the video showed there was no pelican and the insurance company used that as evidence.

The insurance firm also said they found no skid marks on the road and that he  had “left the engine running in the water and let the car submerge until it died on its own causing damage to the engine”.

He claimed that he did not immediately switch off the engine because he was “badly bitten by mosquitoes”.

He has pleaded guilty and faces 20 years in prison when sentenced.
