Girl shoots self after family rebuffs suitor

An 18-year-old Yemeni girl killed herself with a gun after her family refused to let her marry her boyfriend, Yemen’s press reported on Tuesday.

The girl’s parents and her brothers told her that she must marry another man but she revealed to them that she loves the other man.

Infuriated by her revelations, her brothers beat her up and told her she had no choice but to marry the other man.

“After they beat her, the girl went to her father’s room, got a gun and shot herself in the head,” Iram news network said in a report from a village south of the capital Sanaa.
