Man belt-whipped his 6-year-old nephew to death

A suburban Philadelphia man has been charged with beating his 6-year-old nephew to death with a large belt.

Prosecutors in Delaware County allege that 38-year-old Paul Adams Jr. of Wallingford beat Tyreece Charlow for 45 minutes on Thursday night because he wouldn’t get his school clothes ready for the next day.

Authorities said the child was pronounced dead Friday morning of blunt force trauma.

Prosecutors said Adams has a black belt in karate. He is charged with criminal homicide, first- and third-degree murder and possession of an instrument of crime.

Officials at Nether Providence Elementary school say counselors will be available to help classmates of the first-grader deal with his death.

A listed number for Adams could not be found Monday and it was unclear whether he had an attorney.
