Man buries 10-year-old alive because she was girl

A man from Tripura, India, has been arrested for trying to bury his 10-year-old daughter alive.

According to news channel NDTV, the man is accused of burying her because she was a girl.

Identified as Abdul Hussein, the man dug a pit while his wife was out and put his daughter in the hole with her hands tied together and her mouth taped.

When Abdul's wife returned home he put a bamboo basket over their daughter's head as he had not yet finished the job.

The wife began to question where the little girl was and she was soon discovered by neighbours, who then beat the dad up before calling in the police.

The man faces a charge of attempted murder.
