Open drain gang-rape of teen; cops dismiss case

Published

In yet another gang rape, a teenager was abused in an open drain in Mumbai by six men.

The 16-year-old had joined the suspects in a celebration at their apartment, reported NDTV.

However, as it was late at night she was concerned about walking home alone.

The men offered to escort her and enroute forced her to a large open drain under a bridge and forced themselves on her, the report quoted police officials as saying.

The victim, meanwhile, said initially the police refused to file her complaint because she knew some of the suspects and had let them escort her home.

All six suspects are missing.

According to a senior official, an inquiry has been initiated as to why the case was not registered initially.

The case was taken up only after a social activist intervened.
