Parents kill girl, hide corpse for benefits

Published

A couple in Slovakia has been jailed for 31 years after being found guilty of torturing and killing their five year-old daughter and hiding her corpse for three years so they could continue to avail child benefits.

The child's step-father allegedly abused the girl and her mother regularly and ultimately the little girl succumbed to the assaults in 2009, following which the couple hid her body in their rented apartment, according to newsbite.it website quoting a Mirror report.

It was only after three years when the house owner wanted to reclaim the property that the body was discovered. Until then when neighbours questioned about the little girl, the mother replied that she was with her grandmother or aunt.

Meanwhile, the child's biological father was quoted as saying that he last saw his child as a two-year-old. She was with him, until his ex-wife reported him.

The case has caused mass criticism as social workers didn't know the child was missing when during a period when she ought to have been in school.

The man has been sentenced to 17 years in prison for torturing the child and 18 months for living in the house without permission, while the woman has been sentenced to 14 years for failing as a mother and not protecting her child.
