SRI LANKA: A patient, who was under treatment on the second floor of the new wing of the Homagama hospital, committed suicide by leaping off the building around 3.00am earlier this week, ‘Divaina’ reported.

The victim has been identified as, UA Ananda, a 47-year-old father of two and a resident of Diyagama in Kiriwattuduwa.

He had been admitted on Sunday as he was suffering from tuberculosis and his wife had allegedly abandoned him.

He could have taken the drastic step due to his illness or abandonment, police said.

Homagama Acting Magistrate Padmasiri Siriwardena visited the scene for initial magisterial inquiry and ordered that the victim’s body be taken to Kalubowila teaching hospital for post-mortem.

Homagama police are investigating.
