Police recover Rs50 million worth gold

11 kg gold worth Rs50 million (Sri Lanka currency) have been recovered by the police in Moratumulla, Sri Lanka.

Two suspects have been arrested along with a part of 11 kg gold robbed from the Palliyaguru Gold Centre on June 25.

The police nabbed the suspect in the same area, ‘Rivira’ reported.

Police said that this was the biggest gold haul that has been recovered in investigations conducted so far.

The suspects, who were arrested on Tuesday (July 8) was grilled by the police and 9kg of the stolen gold was recovered.

The stolen goods was recovered from Dikwella and Weligama areas where they had been mortgaged and heated.

The suspects, 43 and 47 year old, are from Moratumulla.

Further investigations regarding the suspects are conducted by the Mirihana Special Crimes Operation Division.
