Principal attempts to molest schoolgirl

SRI LANKA: A special investigation has been ordered by Puttalam police over a principal’s regular sexual abuse of a schoolgirl of the same school at Wanathawilluwa area, ‘Sunday Mawbima’ reported.

A senior police officer said that a complaint had been received that the principal would often call the victim to his room and speak to the student inappropriately.

Police was ordered to conduct an investigation by the National Child Protection Authority (NCPA) which had received a complaint filed by the victim’s mother.

The officer said that statements have been recorded from the victim and her mother while the victim has been produced before the Judicial Medical Officer (JMO) for a medical examination.

The victim and her mother had stated to the police that after summoning her to the principal’s office, he used to propose sexual acts and at such times, he ensured that the office door was closed. But the victim had told the police that he never touched her.

Wanathawilluwa police are investigating the matter in order to apprehend the suspect who has fled the area after the complaint was lodged at NCPA.
