Step-dad keeps 8-year-old sex slave

Three people were arrested for keeping an eight-year-old girl as a sex slave with the main suspect turning out to be the little girl’s step-father.

The other two suspects were employees of the main suspect, who were working in a quarry, ‘Mawbima’ reported, quoting the victim’s statement given to police.

The girl was living in the step-father’s house with her mother and her three-year-old step-sister.

The step-father first made the little girl an alcohol addict and then abused her sexually. The two other workers also molested her time and again.

The girl somehow escaped to her grandmother’s house in Pannala but because the grandmother was not at home she went to a nearby shop to buy something to eat. Realising that the little girl was a victim of sexual abuse, the woman in the shop took her to a police station.

Medical examination proved that the victim was sexually molested.

Police arrested the suspects within two hours.

 Child dies while attempting to make swing

An eight-year-old child accidently hanged himself to death when he climbed on a wooden box to tie a cloth to the roof of his house to make a swing.

The victim, Sandun Raj, was a resident of Section Two of Rockwood Estate in Hewaheta and a grade three student of a Tamil school in the area, ‘Lankadeepa’ reported quoting Hanguranketha police.

Preliminary investigations revealed that he had attempted to make a swing using a cloth and climbed on a box when his family was out.

His postmortem was due to be held at Kandy General Hospital.
