Teacher burns boy, 7 with cigarette

A seven-year-old boy paid heavily for not doing his homework. His teacher burnt him a little with a lit cigarette in the Indian state of West Bengal. The teacher fled the village after the incident led to an outcry.

The second grader was punished after the teacher found out that he had not finished his assignment, revealed The Times of India.

The teacher scorched the back of boy's hand with his cigarette. When the boy's relative heard about the incident and saw the burn mark on his hand, he filed a police complaint. The boy does not live with his father as his stepmother does not like him.

Interestingly, the boy and his teacher are neighbours in the same village and the two families are allegedly involved in a land dispute.

The teacher called it a 'conspiracy' and absconded when he learnt that the boy's family had approached the police.

The school management admitted that the child had been treated brutally. They also clarified that as a rule, teachers are not allowed to smoke anywhere inside the school campus.
