Underage pregnant girls escape detention centre

Kalpitiya police have arrested two underage pregnant girls on Monday (17) night, while lazing at the bus stand at Narakkalliya in Kalpitiya, ‘Lakbima’ reported.

One of them was a 16-year-old girl, a resident of Kaladiya-Maduragama in Puttalam while the other was a 14-year-old girl from Moragahayaya in Udugama and both were three-month old expectant mothers.

As they had become pregnant as a consequence of living in concert with their boyfriends, on the order of the judiciary, both were committed to a Centre for underage mothers in Moratuwa.

Although no reasons have been revealed by the girls for their escape from the centre, Kalpitiya police was of the view that they would have escaped in the intention of eloping with their boyfriends once again.

While conducting further investigations, Kalpitiya police were due to produce the suspects before Puttalam District Courts.

Van driver arrested molesting a 12-year-old

Kahatuduwa police on Sunday (16) night arrested a van driver, who had molested a 12-year-old underage girl after fooling her by sacrificing some money, ‘Lankadeepa’ reported.

One day, when the mother found a Rs. 500 note in her school bag, the child upon questioning had revealed the incident which had been going on for several days.

Investigations have discovered that the suspect’s two daughters also travel to school in the same van and on Wednesdays they were attending private classes after school.

The suspect, who gets the other girls after school, drops them at their houses leaving the victim alone in the van and before she was dropped at her home, he used to molest the girl giving toffees, chocolates to her.

Police said they were investigating whether the suspect, a 39-year-old father of two, had acted in the same manner with other girls as well while hospitalizing the victim for a medical examination.
