Woman shot by hubby's mistress

Police say a woman was abducted by her husband's mistress in suburban Atlanta and then shot in what authorities called a murder-suicide after a freeway pursuit into Alabama.

Clayton County Police Officer Charlene Fraser said 49-year-old Sandra Barnett of Ellenwood, Georgia, was abducted from her home Wednesday. Fraser said Clayton County police distributed a lookout bulletin for a black Dodge Durango the woman was taken away in.

Officials said the vehicle was spotted Thursday in west Georgia and was chased into Alabama.

Alabama Law Enforcement Agency spokesman Steve Jarrett said the SUV stopped in Cleburne County, Alabama, and a standoff ensued.

Fraser said the suspect reached into the backseat, grabbed a gun and shot Barnett before shooting herself. She said the suspect was the mistress of the kidnap victim's husband.
