Women tie up mom, assault her

A 25-year-old Sri Lankan woman hanged herself with a crossbar inside her house after she was tortured and accused of adultery.

According to a report in ‘Lankadeepa’, the body was discovered by Dambulla police in Yapagama after a complaint was lodged by the victim’s son.

Identified as SN, the victim was severely assaulted by another woman and her cousin two days before the incident when the victim was walking along with her 7-year-old son on suspicion of extramarital affair with the latter’s husband.

The accused tore her dress and filmed her after tying with a coconut tree, the police said.

Police have arrested the two women and the victim’s body along with her son were sent to Dambulla hospital.

The victim’s son, who came to the police station along with a neighbour around 9pm, had lodged a complaint stating that his mother, who was released from the hospital on the same evening, was missing from home.

The police found the victim’s body hanging on a crossbar inside her home after they launched an immediate search.

Police said they ascertain that the woman had committed suicide as she could not bear the discrimination by the suspects.
