The Medical Licences Committee chaired by Dr Salem Al Darmaki, Acting Director-General of the Ministry of Health, has decided to blacklist a doctor and suspend three others for violating licence conditions.

This was stated by Dr Amin Hussein Al Amiri, Executive Director for Medical Practices and Licences and Acting Chair of the Committee.

The committee decided to blacklist a general practitioner, close down his clinic, cancel the licence permit and refer the case to the public prosecutor in the emirate after reviewing the reports of the committee and a complaint presented by a government department about the enormous number of sick leaves given by the doctor against nominal fees.

During investigation, the doctor admitted that he used to give employees sick leaves due to their humane circumstances.

The committee said the doctor has been using his position in selling sick leaves retroactively for several weeks and to people other than the ‘patient’ himself, which is contradictory to medical ethics.

The committee had also received several complaints against a laser treatment specialist, who is running a private medical centre for violating licence conditions of the Ministry of Health.

Therefore, the committee decided to temporarily suspend the doctor for the welfare of the patients until the completion of the formal investigation.

The committee also approved to temporarily suspend a dental specialist after receiving a report from the inspection department, which indicated that he is always unavailable in the health facility.

The committee had also received several complaints against an orthodontist about violations of licence conditions. A decision in the case has been postponed until the next meeting when the doctor will appear before the committee.
