Dubai Duty Free sales up 14.5% in nine months

Dubai Duty Free (DDF) has announced that its revenues for nine months ended September 30, 2010, grew 14.5 per cent to $902 million (Dh3,313m), and that the world’s single largest airport retail operation is on track for year-end sales of an estimated $1.25 billion, about 10 per cent more than 2009’s record sales of $1.14bn.

Colm McLoughlin, Managing Director of DDF, said: “2010 began well for the operation and we are pleased that our penetration level and average spend has been consistently high. We are heading into a busy sales period in the final months of the year and are optimistic that the year will result in record turnover.”

According to the company, perfumes, which accounts for 14 per cent of total sales at DDF, held on to the top position with sales of $127m for the first nine months of the year, representing 16 per cent increase over the same period last year.

While liquor, which recorded sales of $123m, showed an increase of 13 per cent and held on to the number two spot. Gold sales rose by 11 per cent to reach $96m and retained the third position.

Sales of electronics were up by eight per cent to $68m while watches rose by 29 per cent to $53m accounting for 6 per cent of total revenue.

Other notable increases in sales were seen in cosmetics, which rose by 24 per cent, confectionery up by 13 per cent and delicatessen, which rose by 14 per cent.
