The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has changed the times during which trucks are allowed to use Dubai's roads during the month Ramadan.

The move is intended to ease congestion and assist traffic movement. The timings have been set in line with the working hours adopted by the government and private sectors during the holy month.

"The new timings came into effect on the first day of Ramadan and will continue until the end of the holy month," said Adel Al Marzouqi, Director of the RTA's Right of Way Services Department.

"The decision covers most roads, including Union Road, Al Maktoum and Al Garhoud bridges, Al Khail, Al Wasl, Al Mankhoul, Emirates, Sheikh Zayed, Al Safouh, Jumeirah, Ras Al Khour, Dubai-Al Ain and Al Aweer roads, along with other routes.

"Trucks are not allowed to use these roads from 7.30am to 9.30am, from 1pm to 3pm and from 5.30pm to 8pm. In some areas in the middle of the city, along with vital roads and main areas in Dubai, the ban will continue from 7am to 11pm."

These areas include Sheikh Zayed Road from Jebel Ali Port Bridge to Zabeel Tunnel, Sheikh Rashid Road from Zabeel Tunnel to Al Garhoud Tunnel and Union Road from Al Garhoud Tunnel to Al Mamzar Bridge along with all roads located in the middle of the city. The ban will not apply to industrial areas, where lorries are allowed to use the roads around the clock.

"The areas that trucks are not allowed to use around the clock include Al Shindagha Tunnel, Al Maktoum Bridge, Al Garhoud Bridge and Business Bay Crossing," RTA said.

Price checks conducted

Officials yesterday toured Dubai's fruit and vegetable market to ensure that dealers and importers were following Ministry of Economy (MoE) rules regarding prices.

The visit was part of the MoE's plan to monitor markets and maintain price stability during Ramadan, in accordance with directives from Sultan bin Saeed Al Mansouri, the Minister of Economy.

The tour was led by Dr Hashim Al Nuaimi, Director of the ministry's Consumer Protection Department, and the party included representatives from the Dubai Department of Economic Development and the municipality.

A number of dealers and importers were fined for not adhering to the agreed prices and failing to display prices on products as required by the consumer protection laws. The MoE had earlier announced a full-fledged plan aimed at protecting the interests of consumers during Ramadan.
