An Abu Dhabi-based medical services company is investing an estimated Dh120 million over the next four years to develop 20 new "five-star" healthcare centres across the emirate.

The company, HealthPlus – a subsidiary of the Abu Dhabi-based United Eastern Medical Services (UEMedical), the emirate's leading healthcare investor and developer – was established this year and has already opened its first health centre in the first quarter. HealthPlus has also drawn up plans to acquire existing facilities.

Speaking to Emirates Business, Majd Abu Zant, the company's CEO, said: "The master plan for determining the number of facilities was based predominantly on Abu Dhabi's Plan 2030. Since that has come into effect, it has given all major stakeholders the opportunity to align their growth levels with the emirate's population growth projections, in addition to its population distribution."

He said since healthcare was very closely aligned with population growth, and facilities need to be accessible within areas where people live and work, the company's main focus will be on new communities that are being developed under Abu Dhabi Vision 2030.

"Our plan for these clinics is based on how Abu Dhabi's population integrates into new communities that are being developed," said Abu Zant.

"We have mapped out a strategy for the entire emirate and we will reach as far as Al Gharbia and other remote areas in addition to Al Ain and Abu Dhabi cities and their immediate suburbs. Our services will be tailored differently in accordance with different geographical requirements."

He said that in view of growing requirements, HealthPlus has projected the need for about 20 outpatient health centres offering primary and specialty healthcare services. The company's plan is to establish about six specialty centres as well as focusing on other services, including dental health, orthopaedic, sports and fitness medicine, as well as advanced diagnostic technologies.

"We will be establishing 14 luxury family clinics, for which we have actually moved ahead and confirmed the developers for two. By the end of next year we will have three specialty centres and two family clinics operational, and thereafter two family clinics each year. We are in talks with all major real estate developers to see how we can adopt our offerings to serve their residential developments," said Abu Zant.

The company opened its first family health centre earlier this year, which, he said, was fully operational and had been well received.

"In five years' time, we will have a total number of 21 centres or more, including specialty facilities, with a projected investment of over Dh120m. This is in addition to our plan to acquire some existing facilities across the emirate. We are already looking for some potential acquisitions that meet our standards," he said.

Abu Zant said company stakeholders had set aside a budget for the acquisitions.
