Nashwa Al Ruwaini, media personality and CEO of UAE-based production company Pyramedia, has been unanimously elected as a member of the prestigious International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (Iatas).

With more than 20 years of experience in the television industry in the Middle East, Al Ruwaini has built a huge reputation for content creation in the Middle East.

After 11 years of presenting and creating content for the Middle East Broadcasting Corporation (MBC), Al Ruwaini established her own production company called Pyramedia.

"I am very honoured to be a member of one of the most respected organisations for television in the world," she said. "Being a part of the International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences opens up a new era for dialogue between the East and West and a chance to interact with executives in the film and television industry the world over."

Al Ruwaini is co-founder and former executive director of the Middle East International Film Festival, launched in Abu Dhabi in 2007, and also currently acts as a media consultant to various governments, international institutions and high profile individuals. Previously, she served as head of MBC Group for Egypt and North Africa, CEO of Middle East Productions, and is a former editor-in-chief of lifestyle magazine Nada.

Al Ruwaini participated as a juror for the International Digital Emmy Awards this year and has received an array of accolades during her career including a Feigenbaum Leadership Excellence Award in 2009 and a nomination for 'Best Entertainer' at the 2008 Rose D'Or Awards in Switzerland. She was also ranked among the top 50 most powerful businesswomen in the Middle East by Forbes magazine in 2005 and 2008.
