Following the acquisition of Maktoob.com last year, Yahoo Middle East has unveiled the new brand 'Yahoo Maktoob'.

The new brand, which is showcased throughout the website, further emphasises the Yahoo! brand values, enabling a wider reach across the region and ensuring that Yahoo Maktoob is at the centre of people's online lives.

The Yahoo Maktoob main website, the home to news, finance, sports and available in both English and Arabic, further incorporates the Yahoo look and feel with updated relevant content at the centre of the page to make it easier for consumers to navigate and locate their preferred news. The announcement of the new brand is a significant point for Yahoo in the Middle East, as it prepares to implement new Yahoo! features, such as Y! search on Maktoob.com channels and the Yahoo! and Maktoob account linking.

Ahmed Nassef, Vice-President and Managing Director of Yahoo Middle East, said: "Today, we are thrilled to unveil the new 'Yahoo Maktoob' brand. As part of our strategy of becoming the centre of people's online lives, the new brand fully aligns our properties with Yahoo, already one the region's strongest internet brands. For the first time, Yahoo Maktoob will enable our audience to use their Yahoo login to access all of our Arabic services, from games and sports, to forums and news. Yahoo Maktoob will also fully integrate with English versions of Yahoo Mail and Messenger."

"The new homepage represents another step in Yahoo Middle East's commitment to facilitate the growth of online Arabic content and accommodate the increasing number of internet users looking for relevant information in their language. The new branding and homepage is just the beginning for us. We are working on several exciting product and content releases for the Arab world, so stay tuned!"

Yahoo Maktoob is also launching a World Cup microsite to present football fans with the latest news and match updates.
