An agreement containing measures to combat threats to internet security has been signed by the Zakat Fund and the UAE Computer Emergency Response Team (aeCERT), part of the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA).

The memorandum of understanding covers the co-ordination and support of responses to cyber security incidents. The aeCERT will act as a central contact point for reporting cyber security incidents and will deliver analysis of global and specific cyber security threats.

The team will provide the funds with coordination and advisory services and deliver training, education and advisory services.

"The Zakat Fund is pleased to co-operate with the TRA in the field of information technology security and protection," said Abdullah bin Aqida Al Muhairi, Secretary-General of the Zakat Fund, who signed the agreement. "It has become vital for institutions to protect their IT security and prevent the manipulation and misuse of their information."

TRA Director-General Mohamed Nasser Al Ghanim, who signed the deal for the authority, said: "The aeCERT supports our strategy to endorse safe and smooth internet provision in the UAE. The TRA has established this initiative to improve the standards and practices of information security and to protect the UAE's IT infrastructure from internet threats."

The Abu Dhabi-based fund is a federal authority set up to augment Zakat awareness, collect Zakat and spend it in accordance with the provisions of Shariah.
