Former US first lady Bush hospitalised

Former US first lady Barbara Bush has been admitted to a Houston hospital for check-ups after unspecified complaints about her health, CBS television reported late on Saturday.

"We anticipate her release soon," Bush family spokesman Jim Appleby was quoted in the report as saying.

The check-ups were being carried out at Methodist Hospital in Houston, Texas, at the request of Barbara Bush's doctor, according to the report.

This is the second time the former first lady, who is 84, has been hospitalised in the past two years, CBS News said. She underwent surgery for a perforated ulcer in November, 2008.
